#WritersStrike: What pencils down spells for the entertainment industry

✏️⬇️ With the #WritersStrike underway, all of Hollywood is feeling the impact. Late night TV has moved into repeat episodes, while titles in production are feeling immediate effects. At Diesel, we’re following the situation closely and assessing the potential impact.  

Looking at the major streamers, the impact of the strike is obvious. We broke out the volume of original titles released by platform in 2022 as well as their % of titles in scripted versus unscripted / unscripted-adjacent genres to see who might feel the most immediate impact.

A sticking point of negotiations is knowing the true ROI of content in the subscription economy. We developed a set of stats that measures audience attention at the title level. Below is a recap of content that drove the most new engagers to content from these platforms in 2022.
